How to promote your business on Facebook: 39 tips on Facebook marketing

If Facebook were a country, it would have been the most populous one on this planet. Here is how to leverage its audience for your business goals. Here are 39 of the best tips to promote your business on Facebook.

On it’s 2014 financial summary Facebook said, it had 1.39 billion active users. Ironically China, where Facebook is largely blocked, has a population of 1.36 billion people.

If this was not enough, Facebook is thinking to get 4 billion internet deprived people online says Sheryl Sandberg, the COO of Facebook.

If you are a business, an online entrepreneur, an artist or anyone who makes a living online, Facebook is a must-have in your marketing strategies for business. You should start building an effective Facebook strategy no matter what.

Here are 39 Facebook marketing tips that will help you promote your business on facebook and expand your reach on the platform. These Facebook post ideas and tactics will help you generate more leads through Facebook in addition getting more likes and shares and click through rates.

Basic rules:

1) Be the real you:

Being you is the first rule on any social media. On Facebook, your audience is connected to you emotionally. Try being (the real) you. Here are some points to keep in mind:

  • Get your real name on your profile: “Princesses” and “Kings” don’t appeal on Facebook anymore. So drop them from your first name.
  • Fill your bio correctly: Tell them who you are and what you do. Your BIO is the first thing a prospect will look for on your profile. So share your values and company ethics.
  • Have your language simple: Too geeky words might scare your audience away.
  • Also, make use of SEO: Include the terms you want to appear for when searched online.

2) Connect with your target influencers:

When you are on Facebook, you cannot just sit hands crossed and hope for people looking for you. Not at least if you aren’t Mari Smith or Kim Garst.

So instead take the move from your end. Send friend requests to the influencers you want to connect. As Facebook profiles are more of a personal, a brief introduction is useful. May be a message showing how you first knew each other or an interaction on their blog.

This will help you to get influencers promote your business on Facebook. Needless to say, the conversion rates will sky-rocket.

3) Like pages as your page.

If you want your Facebook page to be seen by a large audience the best thing is to like other pages as your page. And then comment on them and interact on their posts.

This will bring your business into their notice and thus you can create new relationships on the network.

Moreover, using this trick you can steal your competitors’ fans by actively providing value to their posts.

4) Be active and act on notifications.

When you like a new page just click the dropdown on the like button and it shows various options including one that tells you to get notifications for its update.

Same can be done with profiles. Just visit existing friend’s profile and hit the “friends” button to enable or disable notifications from him.

Recently, facebook has introduced a green responsive badge for pages, this is for brands that respond to 90% of the customer messages to their facebook page and that too within 5 minutes of receiving messages. The coveted responsive badge ads to your business credibility and is a good way to promote your business values on Facebook.

Sharing on pages and profiles:

5) Share motivational posts:

People come to social networks to freshen up and to lighten up. Share positivity with them. Quotes and inspirational images get maximum likes and shares on Facebook. Use this to create an audience base that can relate to you.

Here is a mammoth list of Inspirational Robin Williams Movie Quotes to help you get started. Just pick one and post it now.

6) Share humorous posts and memes:

Humor on Facebook sells like hot cakes. Post images of LOL cats or memes depicting the scenario of your industry. This will help to show the lighter side of your business to your audience.

7) Share your office and business pictures.

Want to show transparency in working procedures? Use Facebook as a showcase of your office pictures. A clean and professional layout of your desk might do much to incline a customer towards your brand than just plain statuses.

8) Share the breaking news:

Share the latest news and first off information on your industry as well as the world in common. This will shape you as an informative individual or brand and people will enable notifications for you. This will help you when you want to get heard.

9) Post a personal picture.

No one likes to interact with robots, show ’em that you are a human behind that company logo. Sharing something different (like this) than your normal routine can help you get more likes and comments. Personal pictures will not help in getting enough shares, though.

10) Have variations in test status updates:

Share super short text status updates (<120 characters) to super long statuses (63K maximum). People interact more with short or uber long posts. Short quotes or facts as status gets great shares on facebook.

11) Use keyword research:

Use keyword research to see what is popular on Facebook and what you need to do to get more user interaction on Facebook. With proper keyword research, you can write better posts that will increase your organic reach on Facebook.

12) Share your blog posts:

Your blog is the best place to for someone to get an idea about what you do. If your target audience is on Facebook and is already following you, why not leverage them to increase your blog readers. Share your blog posts as soon as they are cooked. I personally have seen posts titled “New Blog Post” as headlines have great interaction and help in getting maximum shares on Facebook.

Bonus tip: You can track your individual clicks on your links by using a URL shortener like Goo.gl or Bit.ly. I know analytics shows you Facebook clicks but this can be handy.

13) Share a naked link:

Don’t write an excerpt about the post. Let your URL speak volumes.

14) Share an excerpt of your blog post:

Sometimes an excerpt might be a good change. Write a short brief of your post just above the link you share. You can also use this trick to create a buzz around your “not yet published” posts.

15) Use Hashtags:

Hashtags do a lot to increase the reach and life span of your Facebook post. Use appropriate hashtags to gain more user interactions. Limit hashtags to two or three at most. You can even have your own branded hashtag to give your business a brand makeover on facebook.

Using trendy hashtags can be a good Facebook marketing idea for businesses too. But beware to add relevant hashtags. You wouldn’t want to sky-rocket your blog’s bounce rates by having someone land on your health related post from a click on a post with #Iphone6 hashtag.

16) Share an image related to the post along with a description and the link:

17) Avoid click-bait:

Facebook recently updated their spam policy and now punishes for asking users to click on links that appear spammy. It detects the time spent by the users on your links. The more time they spend the valuable the post. And if they return back to Facebook as soon as they click your link it shows your post was a click bait.

18) Share posts with “high-shares resulting” words:

According to Dan Zarrella, words like “Facebook”, “most”, “why”, “health” etc. get maximum shares. Leverage these high shares resulting words to maximize reach of your content on Facebook.

19) Avoid words that get the least shares;

Your headlines have great significance on CTR. Avoid words like “vs”, “apps”, “reviews”, “twitter” etc. to prevent fewer shares. Here is a more detailed list of least shared words on Facebook.

20) Don’t just load it with links:

Facebook isn’t about dumping links. If you do so your account will be no better than a barren desert. Instead interact with people. Try to add value to others by showing activity on their profiles and pages.

21) Share something helpful:

The psychology of sharing” a study conducted by New York Times Scientists reveals that 945 people share a post only because they think it will be helpful for others. Hence, share updates that will be helpful to your fans and followers. People won’t hesitate to share.

For more ideas on what to share on Facebook this post read on Mari Smith’s blog.

Be interactive:

22) Conduct a poll:

Conducting a research for your upcoming product? Are you writing on a topic that needs a vote or poll? What else can be a better platform than Facebook, world’s most used social network?

Use Facebook polls to collect audience insights or simply for fun.

Your questions can be anything here are a few:

1) Who do you think will win today’s football match?

2) Which is your most favorite of the three products we offer?

3) What are the features you expect from our ___ product, in our next update?

You can use this link to conduct a poll on Facebook.

23) Declare the results of the poll.

You can then declare these results on Facebook or use it as a lead magnet. If you got a large number of people responding to your survey, put the results on the top of your business page by pinning it.

PRO TIP: You can also announce special discount coupons you have for your audience. Like I recently did with my Grammarly student discount coupons.

24) Run contents on Facebook.

Facebook is fun. It’s lively. Use Facebook’s amazing and energy filled audiences to run a contest. Contests can be a good idea to uplift the activity on your account.

Use shortstack, Heyo like tools to run contests on Facebook. You can also run mini giveaways by simply asking friends and followers to comment on a post with a number (in a given range say, 1-100) and then selecting the winner through random.org which will select a random number and the first commenter with that number wins the contest.

25) Use your cover photo as a notice board:

You can use your cover picture to display a ton of information about you. Apart from being an attractive image, a cover photo can do a LOT more.

Use it to display information about your other profiles and the work you do. You can also use it to show off your accomplishments. As the cover photo is a prominent section of both your profile and your page it is sure to grab eyeballs.

Wasn’t that a fab idea to advertise your business on facebook for free!

26) Use it to feature your special and featured posts:

  • Create a custom cover image for your special blog posts.
  • Add the shortened URL in your image.
  • Use a CTA button for clicking on the link (optional).
  • While uploading the image edit its description to include post excerpt along with link.
  • User clicks on the image and the lightbox appears with the picture along with the description.
  • It’s a very unique idea for generating leads.

27) Announce product launches on cover images.

Facebook marketing tips for pages only:

28) Add a featured video on Facebook:

Facebook now allows you to add featured videos on your business pages which appear just above your about description. It’s a bigger than normal video thumbnails on the left sidebar. Sky is the limit for being creative with a video.

Use your Featured video for the following:

29) Entice your audience.

This video can be used as your ad copy. Tell them more about your brand. Give them an idea of something behind the scenes. Show your awards and stats. Entice them.

30)Use Facebook native videos to tell them why they should like your page.

31) Tell them about your personal self.

32) Describe your work ethics.

33) Announce a product launch and advertise it with videos.

34) Use the call to action buttons:

Facebook recently announced introduction of CTA buttons to help page admins increase their customer acquisition efforts. Now you can use Facebook’s call to action buttons to generate leads, sell products directly and also for making users play games etc.

The seven CTA buttons include:

  1. Book now (to book a ticket or reservation to an event etc.),
  2. Contact Us (for quick contact),
  3. Use App,
  4. Play game,
  5. Shop now,
  6. Sign up (for email lead generation) and
  7. Watch video.

Use Facebook groups:

35) Create a special group on Facebook for colleagues:

You can create a secret Facebook group for colleagues to interact and collaborate on projects. Facebook groups support file uploads in multiple formats for easier sharing. This could be a great way to business marketing with facebook.

36) Create a group for already customers:

You can create a Facebook group of already members of your products to discuss their reviews, help them and serve as customer support. It would help you to create a close-knit community of raving fans on Facebook.

37) Use groups to share special premium tips and tricks:

If you have a loyal community around your blog, ask them to join your group. Here you can interact with other members (and members amongst themselves) to share special tips related to the industry.

38) Create an event:

Events are SO important around a product launch or celebration time for businesses. You can create an event in your group (you can do it through your profile too) and invite all members to take part in it. This can be used to notify members of any upcoming giveaway at your blog too.

39) Download The Social Media Report 2016

Facebook brand strategy: A WINNING FORMULA to Facebook branding

This is a guest post by Naveen. Here’s what he has to say about branding on Facebook.

Facebook is the largest social media platform with almost one in every seven people on it. According to research, almost 93% of marketers are active on Facebook. That means you can contact with a lot of minded personalities and you have a great chance to make your brand value a big hit on Facebook. As you know, here you can interact with your friends and fans, share content and images with your fans and do more like this. As Facebook proves it 1.3 billion active users and increasing, it becomes a great place for business to customer (B2C) marketing. The best thing is that it is providing Targeting Advertising opportunity based on users interest.

When Swadhin interviewed experts on their take on social media trends this year, Facebook was the clear winner. Here is the social media research 2015 in case you want to read.

Tips to improve your Facebook branding:

1. Personalize your Facebook URL:

It should be on the top of the list in your Facebook brand strategy. Personalize your Facebook URL with your brand username before any anyone else takes it. So firstly let me clear what is personalized URL on Facebook means? It is a customized URL of your Facebook profile.  It shows like www.facebook.com/f5therefresh instead of www.facebook.com/1387458678178740.

In the above example, F5 the Refresh is my blog and I use it as my brand name. Similarly, Swadhin uses the branded URL www.Facebook.com/DigitalGYD for his Facebook business page.Remember you cannot change your Facebook page URL (or at least easily) after you have 200 likes on it. So choose a far-sighted username.

 2. Listen and Interact:

Want to know the best winning formula in my Facebook brand strategy?

Its nothing but listening to others and interacting with them. It is not a good practice of branding that you just create your account and start sharing your stuff. It will suck all your reputation, doesn’t matter how much quality you are delivering to your reader. So first of all understand your fan’s behavior, their interest, what they are expecting from you and all. Interact with them and try to solve out their queries.

You can use Facebook audience insights to quickly check the insights offered by your business page. You can also let it Facebook email you your insights or analytics every week.

After this, you can understand your audience clearly and should try to help them in whatever way  you can. So spending time with your readers and fan is not wastage of your time but it is the investment for long time. More on the concept  here.

3. Customize your Profile Pic and Cover Photo

Visualization is the best way to attract your reader toward your profile. Your profile picture and cover photos tells about you and about your brand. So customize your profile picture and cover with high quality graphics. You need to pay attention on your each and every aspect when you are customizing graphics for your profile or Facebook fan page like font, color etc. Check out how impressive cover and profile pic Jon Loomer the Facebook guru is using on his page.

A well designed cover photo can help you a great deal in visual branding. You can use a free tool like canva will help you create good social media images and give a boost to your facebook brand strategy.

4. Fill all Your Details

Your Facebook profile allows you to fill all your professional and personal details.  This will helps your readers or fans to know more about you that who you are, and what you do. Fill these fields very carefully and accurate. I noticed some people fill their profile that make no sense.

Put your designation and company name very carefully that means don’t use consultant when you are managing SEO Projects in a company. You can use SEO Project Manager in Designation and put company name in Organization field. An updated profile is key to facebook branding.

Don’t forget to fill your schooling details.

5. Deliver Quality to your readers

Quality is the most demanded aspect for everyone. Let me explain, if you like any page on Facebook, then I am sure you always to read the posts updated by the page.  If the page provides qualitative and informative posts either you will unlike the page or unfollow its posts and you will never get their updates on your newsfeed.

That will cause in decreasing the post reach and will harm your branding and reputation. Here is an article which tells you how you can increase your fan engagement on Facebook.  So I will suggest you to focus on quality to make a brand rather than quantity.

6. Join and Create a Fan Page and Group

Facebook groups are a better place to brand yourself. You get become great contributor there and develop a hustling and bustling community around your blog in Facebook groups. You have the opportunity to connect with minded people in your niche. In groups mostly people post their queries and share their suggestions, you can respond them with your great answers.

By this people with notice you and you will be able to make a place in their heart. For me, facebook groups are the best branding strategy I have come across till date.

You can Create a fan page with your brand name. This will also help you to brand yourself. Keep in mind that quality matters a lot. Engage your fans with your valuable content. You can have some sort of contests to boost engagement.

7. Link out Facebook profile with your blog or website

How can you build a personal brand on facebook if your readers and audience cannot find you?

Yes, you should integrate your Facebook profile or Fan page with your website or blog so you can convert your every website visitor in your follower on Facebook. It will help your visitor to find you easily on Facebook. They don’t need to make any search. They can follow you direct from your blog or website. It will help you to increase your quality follower count because they love your content or service on blog so they follow you.

8. Stop playing games

Yes, it’s necessary to stop playing games on Facebook if you want to make your powerful brand. Sending other people game requests can only get them away from you and degrade your Facebook branding. Even accepting other friends’ game requests and getting distracted.

Instead, you can block all incoming game requests on Facebook. When you block any game request on Facebook, you will never get any notification from anyone. But your friends don’t know this trick; either tell them but avoid to play. I am not against facebook gaming, but yes when you are asking a strong branding guide, games cannot be your priority.

Final Words

Facebook Branding is all about helping your readers and fans by delivering quality in their newsfeed. You need to make good contribution without any expectation from your readers; they will help you to make a big brand automatically. So just focus on providing satisfaction with quality content and good appearance on Facebook.

Now, it’s your turn to share your tips and adding more value in this post. I would like to hear your views in the comment section. Have a great brand of you.

10 two-minute tweaks to revitalize your Facebook marketing strategy

Did you ever feel you are running out of time while you have a lot of ideas to boost your social media marketing?

Today we will talk about how to lessen the process of Facebook marketing in just two minutes. With over 100s of features and new Facebook algorithmic changes it’s hard to create a winning Facebook strategy. For a marketer, the key to get all your work done is to divide them into smaller do-able parts and accomplish them whenever you are free.

James Clear has quite influenced me with his two-minute rule and it has helped me to clear out most of the items in my pending list. Here is how you can accomplish more Facebook marketing with just two minute work schedules.

1) Update your profile pictures and cover photos:

Your profile picture or gravatar is your brand. Make it such that people recognize your account through it. Your cover photo should speak volumes about your brand. Use it to showcase your accomplishments and authority.

Here is a full guide on different image dimensions on Facebook according to the latest changes. Carol Amato, my friend has some mind-blowing tips to make images speak for you.

2) Change your BIO snippet:

A BIO is often the most underrated yet the most prominent thing your new visitors see. Your potential fans get an idea of your business through your Facebook bio. So just update it with the latest credentials.

Try to include your current placement and the correct educational details. This will not only help you show off your recent advancements but also will create a positive effect on your would-be friends.

3) Manage the apps section:

The apps on Facebook mean those Pinterest and Quora or Filpboard sections to the left column of your timeline. These are not just apps but are potential sources to convert your Facebook fans into your Pinterest fans or Flipboard followers and so on.

This way you could leverage your Facebook fans and convert them to your fans on other social media platforms.

Here is an easy and short video which shows you how to do this hassle free.

[ft_video ratio=”16:9″ url=”https://youtu.be/gZvl6C2IaP0″]

4) Collect emails from your Facebook fans:

A successful business can never stress enough on email lists. You should never miss a chance to convert your social fans to subscribers because converting someone who already is familiar to you is easier.

The hard question that most brands face is how on earth they would convert a Facebook fan to an email subscriber. The answer is simple though.

Offer incentives.

People love incentives and getting them right at their favorite hangout spot would make them click on your email boxes easily. Here are some of the apps that let you to use email lead generation boxes on Facebook.

Here is how Kim Garst uses way too many freebies to generate email leads.

5) Check out your audience:

If you want to market on any platform you need to know who your audience is. What are their demographics and so on? For this Facebook offers a rich insights and you should regularly study them.

For example, my fans are most active in the evening that is 4PM to 12 am in the night. This means I must be scheduling even more content in this time frame to get good engagement on my Facebook posts.

You can also use this to keep a close eye on the negative feedback. Just open up your page, choose insights and click on “posts” tab.

In the section that provides you with the reach and performance of every page, click on the dropdown menu on the extreme right.

Select the tab that reads, “Post hides, hides of all posts and report of spam”.  This section shows your which of your posts were marked as spam or hidden from the news feed by your audience.

Here is what I found for my Facebook page:

You could also use quintly which provides clear cut and in-depth Facebook analytics. It has a free plan for small business and enterprises having up to three business pages. If you have more you could opt in for their premium service too.

6) Use Facebook call to action button:

Have a product that you are selling? Did your company launch your new Facebook app? You can use Facebook’s call to action button to generate leads, get downloads and also direct fans to directly shop your products from your Facebook fan page.

7) Share other people’s stuff:

Only self-promotion might bore your fans away from you. So try to share related and relevant industry news from other experts. Sharing their content doesn’t mean they will rob you of your fans, instead you will get noticed by them and they will start sharing your posts to their fans.

This will do benefit to both the parties ultimately as is stated by the 80/20 rule.  Here you need to share 80 percent of the content of other influencers and fellow marketers (be careful to share only relevant and valuable info) and twenty percent that of yours.

8) Integrate your website with Facebook:

In order to utilize Facebook marketing and convert your readers into fans and vice versa you need to integrate both the platforms so that your audience can easily switch between the two.

If you are a WordPress user, here is a list of Facebook plugins for your blog (free). If you want rather more control and customization you can use my favorite easy social share buttons which offers dozens of more functionality.

9) Use the two minutes for scheduling the week’s posts in advance:

The best feature of Facebook is it lets you schedule content well in advance. This is especially beneficial when we have to cater to audiences that live in two different time zones.

While Facebook has a feature to schedule content from within the platform, it is pretty basic and we there are pretty many apps available for scheduling your Facebook updates. I use Hootsuite for this purpose and it works pretty fast. Besides Facebook Hootsuite helps in scheduling and in fact managing most other social media platforms like twitter, LinkedIn and even Facebook pages.

Sign up for your free Hootsuite account here.

10) Section-target your audiences for even more conversion:

Facebook previously gave targeting options on the paid ad service but now you can target your posts to specific fans that fulfill your given condition.

You could set your posts to reach people who live on a special location, or have a special interest or have liked a particular page on Facebook.

This helps you target specific posts for specific audiences and not clutter everyone’s feed with every update. The posts irrespective of the targeting all appear on your page’s timeline though.

Using this feature you are a local business, you could use this to promote a special event for your locality only. Or you can use it to target very micro categories of your audience to get even more conversions.

For example, I write social media strategies as well as content marketing blog here. So If I update something related to Facebook I can easily set it to target a custom audience that likes Mari Smith or John Loomer’s page so that they are interested on the topic. Thus sparing the other small business owners (who are also my audience) from a update they aren’t interested in.

Over to you,

Well these were just a few tweaks to kickstart your Facebook marketing strategy. You would be surprised how much of your to-do list gets stroked off once you start this. What have you thought to complete today in the next two minute break?
